Standard Chartered Bank x Hong Kong Disneyland

THE FORCE IS STRONG WITH THIS ONE

It isn’t every day that you get to rub shoulders with the likes of R2D2 and Chewbacca. But Gordon Lund, our Hong Kong-based photographer, managed to do just that recently – thanks to the little project we did with TBWA for Standard Chartered Bank in partnership with Hong Kong Disneyland.

After a quick one-week prep, we excitedly packed our bags (not forgetting our Jedi robes) and flew to the land of dim sum, though not on the Millennium Falcon or an X-Wing Starfighter. Unsurprisingly, the commercial flight was as uneventful as it was unexciting.

As with all theme park shoots, we only had a limited time with R2D2 and Chewbacca, so Gordon wisely prepped our young padawans by channelling his inner Obi-Wan, and got them all excited for the arrival of the characters.

He made them warm up in their robes with their lightsabers, and then taught them the proper defensive stances to guard against the power of the Dark Side. And from the looks of the final product, they did a pretty good job of it too!

There was one new thing we learnt on this shoot though. You know how people always say you should never work with kids if you can help it? As our wise old friend Yoda would say: Do – or do not. There is no try.

(But just for the record, the kids were awesome.)
